The campaign manager creates and implements the campaign strategy and oversees the candidate, staff, volunteers, and volunteer leaders. With considerable latitude for independent decision-making, the campaign manager thinks creatively to engage voters with meaningful projects and outreach strategies that combine traditional door-to-door canvassing with more unconventional strategies such as postcard campaigns and taxi cab rallies. In managing the day-to-day activities of the campaign, the ideal person for this job balances the long term goal of building working class power with the short-term goal of winning the election. Overall, the campaign manager runs a campaign that is intentional, organized, meaningful, and joyous.

Responsibilities:

  • Understands candidate’s priorities and goals and works and makes decisions with a high level of independence
  • Thrives without structure–creates the structure for themself, the candidate, and the rest of the campaign team
  • Manages Field Director, staff, and team of core volunteer campaign leaders
  • Strategizes campaign plan at a high level while managing day-to-day activities
  • Project-manages campaign activities from idea to debrief
  • Designs and implements campaign strategies and activities that are serious, meaningful and impactful
  • Builds relationships; sets agendas, researches, and facilitates meetings for staff, volunteer leaders, and stakeholders
  • Prioritizes candidate’s and team’s time and schedules meetings appropriately
  • Recruits and manages volunteers
  • Manages campaign budget and creates campaign spending timeline; ensures that campaign is meeting fundraising goals; oversees mass fundraising communications, including email, text banking, and merchandise sales
  • Pitches in at all levels of work when necessary; works flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Creates a campaign culture of respect and open communication; mediates and resolves conflict within staff and teams of volunteer leaders

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated passion for/experience in bettering the material conditions of working class people
  • Adept at managing people and projects
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the diverse, multicultural, and immigrant communities of the district
  • Excellent time management skills with an eye towards efficiency and efficacy; demonstrated capacity to work under tight deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks and issues
  • Ability to work with basic office computer applications and social media platforms
  • Required to live in New York State upon beginning of employment
  • Prior campaign experience a plus
  • Speaking and/or writing knowledge of Spanish, Arabic, Bangla, Greek or Urdu preferred
